Job-embedded PD
Model: A job embedded or practice-based approach to professional development is used multiple times a month for STEM teachers.

Hendersonville Elementary is staffed with several wonderful advocates and experts in the area of STEM.  These people meet regularly with staff members in order to provide support in STEM.

Carolyn Henderson is an instructional coach at Hendersonville Elementary.  With a background teaching upper grades, she supports teachers with ideas to help implement STEM during bi-weekly meetings.  She also provides resources for teachers to use in order to increase understanding of difficult concepts. She ensures that teachers have all of the quality materials needed in order to be successful in STEM, as well as provides necessary training for teachers to be comfortable using the materials.  

Susan Newman is our Math and STEM specialists. She provides STEM instruction weekly based upon students’ needs and interest. She also provides teachers with instructional practices, lesson plans, and necessary training focused on implementing successful STEM units in the classroom during bi-weekly meetings.  She attends STEM Professional Development off-site and often brings insight to teachers from these opportunities as she meets with grade level teams and PLCs.

Candice Greedy is our Media Specialist. Candice contributes to the school through technology advancements and monthly technology professional development. She is a certified Google Educator and ensures that teachers have the training, the materials, and the technology necessary to implement STEM throughout the school. She meets with grade levels and performs regular surveys in order to stay abreast of school needs in the area of Professional Development as well as technology.

Kerry Stewart is our principal. She is passionate about STEM and delivers her own methods of Professional Development and ensures that teachers are given every opportunity to advance their careers in STEM during weekly meetings. Through rigorous planning, Kerry has developed schedules of Professional Development, materials, and the money necessary to scaffold teachers as successful STEM educators.

Below is a coaching log created by our STEM Specialist.  She keeps notes about each session and how she is helping the teachers and students grow.
