Attribute 1.4 Physical Space
Model: One or more facilities or spaces are available specifically for students to collaborate and do project-work; the spaces can be used for face-to-face and/or virtual collaboration among students and teachers; they can also be used as exhibition spaces; may include a STEM lab.

At Hendersonville Elementary School, we have purposely designed each classroom for collaboration among students and project work areas.  Along with incorporating STEM content in the classroom, there are several spaces created for students to participate in engineering challenges.  Activities in the STEM Lab range from challenges for students to overcome, explore and collaborate among students with lego robotics, and creation of new items using technology.  Students can also design and build on our Lego Wall makerspace located in the media center.  Teachers can reserve the computer lab for students to create new products using computers and iPads.  When the weather is nice, students and teachers take a walk on our nature trail which leads to our outdoor classroom.  This provides wonderful opportunities for hands-on learning and experimenting for our children.

All classrooms at HES encourage collaboration and provide space needed for exploration and challenges.

Our STEM Lab is used for lego robotics, engineering challenges, PBL and collaboration among students.

Students participate in many STEM challenges in our STEM Lab.

The computer lab is used to extend learning and provide opportunities for students to create new products using technology.
