career exploration for students
Model: Monthly students explore careers, including STEM careers, professional activities, and skills, as a part of their coursework (e.g. online activities, guidance from teachers, guidance from business partners, etc.).

At HES, we understand the importance of having our students explore and experience careers within and outside of school. We want our students to be College and Career ready and are creating opportunities for experimentation and exploration in the early years. At Hendersonville Elementary, our staff is intentional about incorporating careers into all subject areas.Teachers invite STEM professionals throughout the year to speak to students about their careers and each grade level plans field trips during the year through which students have opportunities to learn about a variety of careers. Students will be exposed to many careers throughout their elementary years, hopefully planting a seed to support students in their goal setting. Hendersonville Elementary works with community members, as well as families from our STEM Pipeline to expose all students to STEM careers, especially local careers found in our community.

At our beginning of the year staff retreat , STEM teacher Mrs. Newman and school counselor Mrs. Sloan meet with all the teachers and outlined with them the Career Exploration plan for the year.  Each Specials teacher has been responsible for bringing in someone from the community to educate their classes about careers available in the disciplines they teach.

To the right, is a chart that lists HES monthly community partnerships  for 2016-2017 school year for career exploration.
